Join the Monthly Carving Club!
Interested in carving more, but you don't necessarily know what to make, what material to use, or how to start? Every month we will be learning to carve a new form of wooden utensil and develop new carving skills. Members will receive a pre-axed out hardwood spoon/spreader/ utensil blank by mail and can also opt to receive finished example(s) of that form. Members are invited to join an Instagram group chat community where we all share progress, ask questions, and learn together, as well as a monthly carving club video call where folks are invited to hop on and carve, ask questions, receive more technical instruction, and enjoy good company and conversation. I’ll do my best each month to make sure you get your money’s worth and simpler forms may come with two blanks etc… You can participate for as long or short as you like, skip months, really whatever works for you. Payment can be made monthly via an emailed invoice (there’s an option for you to make it an automatic payment if that’s easier for you as well). Just be in touch if you want to join!
$30 + shipping per month (includes blank, finished utensil(s), access to video/ chat resources)
$10+ shipping per month (includes blank, access to video/ chat resources)
Private Lessons & One on One Instruction
Interested in furthering your skills with more personalized instruction? I am now offering one on one and small group lessons for spoon carving, pole lathe turning, and other ancestral skills. Lessons can take a variety of formats, and can either focus on specific techniques or more generalized instruction of an entire process.
If you were interested in learning about the spoon carving process a lesson may look like this- you could join me in my workshop, via video chat, or I could travel to you. We would spend a few hours together learning how to properly use a knife, hook knife, and axe. Over the course of the lesson we would work together to carve a couple spoons, working from log to finished spoon, switching back and forth between as I demonstrate and you practice the various techniques for each step of the process. By the end of the day you would leave with a couple completed spoons, as well as a solid skill base of the techniques used in every step of the process.
Lessons on the pole lathe could follow a similar process, ending the session with a two finished bowls and a strong introduction to the process.
My current private instruction rate is $40 for the first hour, and $20 per every additional hour.
Reach out to me via Instagram or wildfolkmakers@gmail.com to discuss private lesson options and schedule a time!
